Denver, CO (August 17, 2019) It’s the year 2020 and the Denver Metro Transportation Authority (DMTA) is running out of room to expand its fleet.
So it’s turning to private companies for a replacement.
DMTAs fleet has been in a steady decline over the past decade, with only 11 of the 24 buses it operates now being equipped with advanced technologies.
The last bus was built in 1992, and all but one of the 20 remaining vehicles are obsolete.
The DMTA is currently working on a new fleet to fill the void, but it may be too late for many of its most vulnerable customers.
In a move designed to reduce congestion and reduce air pollution, the DMTAs recently unveiled a new bus model dubbed the SkyTrain.
The SkyTrain is designed to help alleviate the traffic woes experienced by some of Denver’s most vulnerable residents.
It’s intended to help commuters navigate the city’s congestion, with seats that fold down into an elevated seat, and a seatbelt.
It’ll be built in partnership with a private company called Metropolis, and the first unit will arrive on the streets of Denver by the end of 2019.
Metropolis is a small bus manufacturer based in China, with an emphasis on building high-speed, high-capacity buses.
While its buses have been in service for a decade, they’ve only recently seen significant improvements in terms of fuel efficiency, noise, and safety.
“Our company has demonstrated a clear path towards achieving a fleet of up to 20 SkyTrain vehicles,” said Metropolis CEO Zhang Guo in a statement.
“We are in a race against time to achieve this goal.”
The company says the new SkyTrain will also help reduce CO2 emissions by reducing the number of cars in a fleet.
The new model will also reduce COII emissions by up to 17 percent.
As it stands, there are more than 6 million Metro riders who use public transit in Denver, with roughly 2 million of those using SkyTrain as their primary mode of transportation.
“Our goal is to have a fleet that will be a sustainable, safe, and efficient choice for the millions of Denver residents who rely on public transportation,” said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock in a press release.
This is a good move by the DMA, but many of the affected customers aren’t buying it.
According to the Denver Post, more than 30 percent of the public transit users surveyed by the newspaper have voiced concerns about the Skytrain’s safety.
They’re worried that the new buses will be poorly built, not able to withstand the elements, and not equipped to handle severe weather.
According to Metropolis’ CEO, the Sky Train is going to cost $1.3 million to build, which isn’t too shabby.
But for some of its more vulnerable customers, it could end up costing them more.
With more than 4,300 active and retired DMTAS bus drivers, there will be an average of 12 to 15 SkyTrain buses running in Denver by 2021, according to Metros statement.
There are currently about 4,200 active DMTas in the city, according a statement from DMT.
While that’s a large number of people, it’s still a very small percentage of the city.
Many of those who live in areas that are impacted by CO2 pollution are frustrated with how long it takes to get the SkyTrak to their destination.
While the DMRT says the SkyTicket will help alleviate congestion, many people are worried that it will cost them more money than the SkyTrains cost.
The SkyTracks cost around $3,200 to make and it is not currently available for purchase.
And as the SkyBus fleet is nearing its end, it may not be long before more than 2,000 of the Skytraks are already sold.
Denver is also looking to take on more CO2-emitting vehicles by building an EV-free bus fleet, but its not looking to compete with Metropolis.
