A report from The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday said the service could be rolled out by the end of the year, and it will allow users to order rides using their smartphone or a tablet.
“Uber will roll out its new transportation platform in the coming months and will be the first transportation company to offer rides to its customers through a smart phone or tablet,” the report said.
The news comes just days after Uber launched its first self-driving car in the US.
Uber, which is currently valued at $70 billion, is in a battle to be the dominant transportation company in the world.
The company has been working on its autonomous vehicle technology since late 2016.
Earlier this year, Uber said it was developing its own self-parking system that would allow it to be on the road as often as five days a week.
In an interview with Business Insider, the company’s CEO Travis Kalanick said the company is looking to “reduce the amount of time it takes to get a car out of the garage.”
“We’re going to take the cars out on the streets, and we’re going take the vehicles out on a daily basis.
We’re going have a daily drive to do that.
And it’s going to be automated,” Kalanicks said.
“It’s going for a very long time.
So it’s not just going to come to us.
It’s going on the street.
And then once you get that experience, you’re going do it every day, every week.”
The company said it had spent $1.2 billion on its self-service cars, and will continue to expand the service to new markets, including Europe.
